Mission: The Implementation of diverse projects to build an advanced information society while highly respecting human nature
In the 21st century, the effect of IT on industries, society and life, is always increasing. The New Media Development Association (NMDA) implemented experiments and operations of Hi-OVIS, the world first completely interactive visual information system using fiber optics for general households, with the support of both the government and private sector, in Higashi-Ikoma, Nara, in 1972. Since then, the NMDA has promoted building a variety of social information systems. The services given by the NMDA are highly evaluated both because of their effectiveness and practicality, and also because their promoted use. These achievements are a vanguard of today's IT. The NMDA has made efforts on different types of information system (new media) progressively.
In the course of the progression of the new media society, the NMDA has expanded research and system construction related to new media as a new media community concept promoted by the organization of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (former Ministry of International Trade and Industry) since 1984. The organization has played an active role in the introduction of new media to local communities. In addition, the NMDA has achieved well in such areas as the promotion of the electronic network, the advanced information city, and the Mellow Society concept.
Recently, in addition to these projects, the NMDA is strongly promoting a technical development of smart cards, developments and demonstration experiments of new social systems such as an electronic application or submission to the government using the Internet, and IT utilization in public sectors.
The NMDA has promoted these achievements widely by technical disclosures or free software offerings.
